Why Your Chronic Pain Persists (When Nothing Is 'Wrong')
Feb 05, 2026
And the 5 hidden drivers your doctor probably never explained
If you've been told your scans look normal, your bloodwork is fine, and there's nothing structurally wrong... yet you're still in pain every single day—this post was written for you.
You're not imagining it. You're not weak. And you're certainly not crazy.
I spent 25+ years in biomedical and clinical research, and I can tell you with confidence: chronic pain relief without medication isn't just possible—for many people, it's the only approach that actually works long-term.
Here's why.
The Problem with Chasing the Painful Spot
Conventional medicine excels at one thing: finding structural damage. Fractures, tumours, torn ligaments, herniated discs—when something is visibly broken, medicine can often fix it.
But here's what the research actually shows:
Up to 85% of chronic low back pain has no identifiable structural cause on imaging (Brinjikji et al., 2015). Similar patterns appear in fibromyalgia, chronic fatigue, and many unexplained pain conditions.
The scans show nothing wrong because the problem isn't structural. It's functional.
It's happening in your nervous system, your body's protection mechanisms, and your biofield.
And that's exactly what most doctors aren't trained to address. Conventional approaches often mask and rarely address root causes.
The 5 Hidden Drivers of Chronic Pain
After working with clients around the world, I've identified five patterns that consistently show up in people whose tests come back "normal" but whose pain is very real.
Driver #1: Your Nervous System Has Learned Pain
Dr. Lorimer Moseley's research at the University of South Australia shows that pain is an output of the brain, not just an input from the body. After months or years of pain, your nervous system can become hypersensitive—treating normal sensations as threats.
This is called central sensitisation. The good news? What's been learned can be unlearned. Nervous system regulation for pain is becoming one of the most promising areas of chronic pain research.
Driver #2: Emotional Memories Are Stored in Your Body
Dr. Bessel van der Kolk's landmark research, published in The Body Keeps the Score, demonstrates that unprocessed trauma creates holding patterns in tissues, fascia, and the nervous system.
That chronic shoulder tension that never releases? That gut that never settles? That pain that keeps coming back no matter what you try? They may be your body holding memories it hasn't fully processed.
Driver #3: Your Biofield Is Disrupted
Your body is fundamentally electric. Every cell produces a measurable electromagnetic field. When your biofield is incoherent—disrupted by chronic stress, emotional charge, or prolonged illness—your cells struggle to communicate properly, and healing may be impaired.
Driver #4: Your Pain Has a Protective Purpose
Pain neuroscience research reveals something surprising: pain isn't just a damage signal. It's a protection signal. Your brain produces pain when it believes you need to pay attention to something—even after tissues have healed.
Fighting the pain can sometimes reinforce the danger signal. True mind-body pain relief comes from creating safety, not forcing change.
Driver #5: Your Cellular Environment Is Compromised
Your internal environment—influenced by hydration, stress, inflammation, and even your emotional state—affects how well your body can repair and regulate itself.
This is why healing isn't just about what you do TO your body. It's about what environment you create WITHIN it.
What You Can Do Right Now
Understanding these drivers is the first step. But knowledge alone doesn't create change—practice does.
I've created a free guide that goes deeper into each of these five drivers, complete with research references and two simple EFT (Emotional Freedom Techniques) exercises you can try today.
These aren't complicated. One takes 5 minutes, the other just 2 minutes. And they address the nervous system and emotional memory drivers directly.
If your pain shifts even half a point after trying them, that's not luck—that's trainability. Your nervous system can learn a new response.

Ready to Address All Five Drivers?
I combine 25+ years of biomedical research with EFT (Emotional Freedom Techniques) and Plasmatic Therapy to address all five of these drivers systematically.
My clients often experience noticeable relief in their very first session—because we're addressing what's actually causing the pain, not just managing symptoms.
